Children’s Hospital & Research Center said Thursday it is planning a $425 million upgrade that will modernize its Oakland campus and enable that complex to meet seismic safety requirements.

The hospital and research center said facilities will be improved for children, adolescents and their families.

Some funding has been identified for the modernization, but more money must be raised, said Bert Lubin, CEO of Children’s Hospital. This year, the hospital will celebrate its 100th anniversary.

“Now we need to ensure that we are here for our patients for the next century — and beyond — by providing modern and seismically compliant buildings and technology,” Lubin said.
