OAKLAND, Calif. (KGO) — Children’s Hospital Oakland has a new name and a huge check to cash.
In January, the hospital became affiliated with UCSF Medical Center.
From now on, the hospital will be known as UCSF Benioff Children’s Hospital – Oakland, to distinguish it from the new children’s hospital being built in San Francisco.
Both hospitals are also getting a $100 million donation from Marc Benioff — the founder of Salesforce.com.
“It will help us build an ambulatory center that’s designed to prevent illness in children. It will help us create a little more space within the building for our intensive care units and our postoperative surgical areas,” said Bert Lubin, M.D., the Children’s Hospital Oakland CEO.
The new outpatient center in Oakland will be built across the street from the current Children’s Hospital. Groundbreaking won’t take place until 2017.
The new UCSF Benioff Children’s Hospital – San Francisco opens in February of next year.
